How Are Averages Calculated?

When viewing a school's performance data, you'll see comparisons like "+12% vs avg". These averages are calculated from all schools in our database, covering over 20,000 state-funded schools across England. For primary schools, we show KS2 SATs results (percentage meeting expected standard in reading, writing and maths). For secondary schools, we show GCSE results (percentage achieving grade 5 or above in English and maths).

Data sources: School information from GIAS, Ofsted ratings from Ofsted management information, and exam results from DfE school performance tables.
