What Data Is Shown?
English school data comes from the Department for Education's Get Information About Schools (GIAS) database, with Ofsted ratings and KS2/GCSE exam results. Scottish school data comes from the Scottish Government's school contact details and Education Scotland (HMIE) inspection grades. All schools show name, type, age range, religious character, contact details and distance from your location.
How Are Averages Calculated?
When viewing an English school's performance data, you'll see comparisons like "+12% vs avg". These averages are calculated from over 20,000 state-funded schools across England. For primary schools, we show KS2 SATs results (percentage meeting expected standard in reading, writing and maths). For secondary schools, we show GCSE results (percentage achieving grade 5 or above in English and maths). Scottish schools show Education Scotland inspection grades instead, as Scotland has a separate curriculum and exam system.
Data sources: School information from GIAS, Ofsted ratings from Ofsted management information, and exam results from DfE school performance tables.
