Cheapest Petrol Stations in Liverpool
Liverpool benefits from serious supermarket competition. Asda has five forecourts across the city, Tesco covers the east side well, and Morrisons has sites at Speke and Belle Vale. The Edge Lane corridor is a particularly good hunting ground - Tesco Extra and several branded stations sit within a mile of each other, which keeps prices sharp.
Prices in Liverpool tend to sit at or slightly below the national average. A big reason for that is the Stanlow oil refinery at Ellesmere Port, only about 15 miles south-east along the Mersey estuary. Shorter tanker runs from refinery to forecourt mean lower distribution costs, and that shows up at the pump.

Fuel Prices by Area
Liverpool's city centre has barely any fuel stations. The waterfront, the commercial district around Dale Street, and the Liverpool ONE shopping area were all built or rebuilt without forecourts. If you're heading into town, fill up in the inner suburbs first.
The best prices cluster around Edge Lane and the A5047 corridor running east from the centre. This stretch has Tesco Extra, a BP, and a couple of independent-brand stations all within easy reach. Further north, the Switch Island area near the M57/M58 junction has good options for anyone coming from Netherton or Maghull. Asda Aintree and a handful of branded stations serve this busy junction well.
South Liverpool has strong coverage around Hunts Cross and Speke, close to the airport. The A561 Speke Boulevard connects several forecourts. If you're picking up or dropping off at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, fill up at one of these rather than waiting until you're on the motorway.
The A580 East Lancs Road heading out towards St Helens has a string of stations along its length. Prices tend to be reasonable here thanks to the volume of traffic. But avoid the M62 motorway services at Burtonwood - captive-market pricing adds 10-15p per litre over what you'd pay at a supermarket forecourt five minutes away.
The Wirral Question
Drivers sometimes wonder whether fuel is cheaper on the Wirral side of the Mersey. Stations in Birkenhead, Bromborough, and Bebington can occasionally undercut Liverpool prices by a penny or two. But the Mersey Tunnel tolls wipe out any saving - the Queensway and Kingsway tunnels charge ยฃ2.00 each way for cars. Unless you're already heading across the water, filling up on the Liverpool side makes more financial sense.
If you do commute from the Wirral, it's worth comparing prices on both sides. Set the search radius to 15 or 20 miles on the map above to see stations across the whole of Merseyside at once. Our distance calculator can help you work out whether a detour to a cheaper station is worth the extra miles.
Delivery Drivers and Couriers
Liverpool's position on the M62 corridor makes it a hub for logistics and delivery work across the North West. If you're running multi-drop routes across Merseyside, filling up at a supermarket forecourt before starting your round will save you a noticeable amount over a working week compared to grabbing fuel at whatever station happens to be nearest.
Plan your drops with our free route planner, then combine it with this fuel map to find the cheapest station near your first stop. Over a month of daily deliveries, even 3p per litre adds up.
